The suspect in the murder of Alexis Smith, 43 years of Warapana, Upper Pomeroon River, Essequibo, was arrested by the police on Friday last at Warapana and is in police custody assisting with the investigations.
Alexis Smith had been reported as missing on July 26, 2011, and his body was later found in the river at Aripiaco, Upper Pomeroon River, on July 29, 2011. A post mortem examination was subsequently done by Dr. Nehaul Singh who gave the cause of death as blunt trauma to the head and asphyxiation due to drowning.
