Muslims across Guyana celebrate Eid ul Fitr.

Georgetown: All the mosques around Guyana were today packed with worshippers as they observe Eid, the ending of the holy month of Ramadan. Today is a day to celebrate among family and friends. It is a day of both joy and sadness. Joy for those who will spend quality time with friends and family partaking in the many sweet dishes made on this day. Sad for those who have observed the fasting throughout the month and have fulfilled the essential pillar of Islam.

For many Eid is like Christmas for the muslims. In his message to mark the occasion President of the Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana Fazil M Ferouze said;" the Holy Month of Ramadan was a month of great sacrifice during which we intensified our devotions to Allah SWT: by fasting from dawn to sunset whilst remaining in the remembrance of Allah SWT and being in a state of goodwill, by giving charity to the poor and needy and the vulnerable, by regular feeding of those suffering hunger amongst us, and by the increase of prayers to encompass the regular five-daily prayer. He added that muslims do these pious actions knowing that by the promise of Allah SWT they will obtain taqwa or God Consciousness and at their journey’s end obtain His paradise.
