Georgetown : Cabinet Secretary Dr Roger Luncheon said the date for national election that President Bharrat Jagdeo will announce is not likely to come before November 14, the date by which the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM), declared it would be ready for the hosting of the 2011 national elections.
Luncheon stated that the Commission is currently pressing ahead with preparations for production and distribution of identification cards which were rectified from the backlog, as well as the 8,000 new registrants added to the list following the re-opening of the claims period.
“The Elections Assistance Bureau (EAB) has been the first locally identified entity to be approved by GECOM as a local observer for the elections. Of the seven external entities invited by the government to observe the elections, favourable responses have so far been received by two which are the OECS and CARICOM,” he said.
