Berbice : The state owned National Communication Network (NCN) renewed its sponsorship of the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) Under-15 Inter-zone tournament for the third successive year.
The Company’s Berbice coordinator, Faizal Jafarally, handed over the sponsorship cheque last Thursday of $202,000 to treasurer of the BCB, Anil Beharry, at a simple ceremony in New Amsterdam.
In handing over the sponsorship, Jafarally hailed the BCB as a unique organisation which should be emulated throughout Guyana. NCN, he noted, was quite satisfied with the organisation of the past tournaments and the high standard of play on the cricket field.
He urged the BCB to make sure that it does all in its power to maintain the high standard of cricket in the Ancient County. He challenged the present generation of Berbice Under-15 to strive to follow in the footsteps of national players Narsingh Deonarine, Assad Fudadin and Devendra Bishoo.
Beharry expressed his delight that NCN has once again come on board as the official sponsor.
He expressed gratitude to the management and staff of the entity for investing in Berbice cricket and expressed the hope that the relationship between the two organisations would be long and successful.
The tournament will involve the best Under-15 players in Berbice playing for Upper Corentyne, Lower Corentyne, New Amsterdam/Canje and West Berbice.
The two top teams will clash in the final scheduled for the Cumberland ground, while the third place match will be played at the Port Mourant Ground.
The Berbice Under-15 team will be selected based on performance in the tournament.
