Georgetown : Head of the Presidential Secretariat Dr. Roger Luncheon during a post-Cabinet media briefing stated that efforts have been successful in ensuring that Guyanese are not faced with the monopoly of high air fares by Caribbean Airlines to travel from Guyana to Port of Spain.
He added that intervention have since been taken to address this scourge and to date, the fare which was at a price of US$450 has been significantly reduced.
“Cabinet was advised that some progress has been made among which were the airfare has been significantly reduced. The report was that almost a 50% reduction in the fare to the said route and our understanding was that it took effect from the current date,” the Cabinet Secretary said.
Recently, low cost carrier ‘Red jet’s has succeeded in acquiring a licence to operate in Trinidad and Tobago and launched its service in Guyana on May 10 at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA).
The recently launched airline has since been offering low fares to travel and its management has been lauded by Government.
