New Attorney General appointed

British Virgin Islands: The appointment of Dr. Christopher Phillip Malcolm as Attorney General is approved by His Excellency the Governor, after consultation with the Judicial and Legal Service Commission, with effect from 1st January 2012, according to a report on the BVInews.com.

Dr. Malcolm is a native of Jamaica who is admitted to practice in Jamaica, the Virgin Islands, Dominica and St. Lucia. His legal and professional experience spans over 16 years, including as a lecturer in the faculty of Law at the University of the West Indies, from which he obtained his Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree. He also holds a Master of Law (LL.M.) degree, as well as a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree from the Centre for Commercial Law Studies, Queen Mary University, London.

The BVInews.com report said that Dr. Malcolm succeeds Mr. Baba Aziz, Principal Crown Counsel who was appointed Acting Attorney General from 24th June 2010. The Government of the Virgin Islands wishes to express thanks to Mr. Baba Aziz who joined the Attorney General’s Chambers in June 2001 and was appointed on contract in the post of Senior Crown Counsel. He was subsequently promoted to the post of Principal Crown Counsel in 2007.
