Marston Gibson will take the oath of office at Government House to become Barbados' new Chief Justice next Thursday.
His appointment was made by the Governor General, Sir Clifford Husbands,on the recommenendation of the Prime Minister, Freundel Stuart,after consultation with the Leader of the Opposition Owen Arthur.
A Court attorney (judicial) referee in the Supreme Court of the State of New York untill recently, Gibson brings a background of more than 25 years of teaching and practising law, in the West Indies and the United States to his new job.
The Chief Justice designate is a Rode Scholar with law degrees from the University of the West Indies (UWI) and Oxford University in England.
He was a lecturer at the UWI Law Faculties at the Cave Hill and St Augustine campuses,a talented musician and singer, Gibson was a promininent figure on the entertainment scene in the 1980s.
Gibson emigrated to the United States in 1987, he will replace Sir David Simmons who retired two years ago.
