New Governor General appointed

Bridgetown.

Retired High Court Judge Elliott  Fitzroy Belgrave, will officially be appointed Governor of Barbados on June 1, he has been acting in the position since the retirement of Sir Clifford Husbands on November 1.

The Governor General designate was born in 1931 and  is a graduate of London and Cambridge universities, he is a former Director of Public and has served as a a Judge of the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal.

Belgrave is a Queen's Counsel and was awarded the Companion of Honour for his contribution to the legal system in Barbados.

The Queen will confer the on Belgrave the Knight Grand Cross Of  The Most Distinguished Order Of St Michael And St George, so that on assuming the office of Governor General he would under the Order Of The Knight Of St Andrew, become the Chancellor And Principal Knight of St Andrew.

Belgrave and his wife Loretta have been married for 51 years. The installation cermonty will take place in the Senate Chamber.
