Georgetown- A Bauxite Development Unit has be created to oversee and assist in making recommendations relating to the economic, mining and promotion of bauxite resources in Guyana.
According to Government, the unit will also be used to assist in social, environmental and occupation health and safety issues pertinent to exploration, development and mining.
The decision was taken in light of expanding investment by Bauxite Company of Guyana; BOSAI minerals group Guyana, and the impending investment of 120 million U.S. at Bonasika.
Minister of Natural Resources and the Environment Robert Persaud met with executives of Bauxite Company of Guyana to discuss investments made to increase job creation opportunities in the Berbice River.
