New hosptial still on cards

Bridgetown.

The Government  of Barbados is still planing  to build a new hospital and will spend 15 million dollars for a feasibility study on the project.

This was revealed in the House of Assembly today by Minister of Health John Boyce who was speaking during a debate to during  guarantee a  loan of  $25 million dollars the Queen Elizabeth Hospital is borrowing from RBC Royal Bank Barbados Limited, to repay another loan owed to Citicorp Commercial Bank which was in the form of a bond that is now due.

The Minister said the goernment is  currently looking for funding for the feasibility study which will be concerned with the preparation work for the hospital project. Government hopes to commence that study shortly.

 He stated that the  construction of the hospital will be part of a capital works program that will help boost economic activity. But he also indicated that when this hospital is built those who use its services and can afford to pay will have to do so.

 Leader of Opposition business in the House of Assembly Kerry Symmonds accused the government of continually making empty pronouncements on which they don’t deliver.
