New method to road repairs

Bridgetown.

A new procedure to road repairs used at Jackson, St Michael, has resulted in the disruption of traffic being reduced from months to mere days.

This disclosure was made by Minister of Transport and Works while inspecting the road works being done by C.O.Williams Construction being done at Jackson.

Boyce said a section of the road was dug up, a culvert installed and resurfaced which allowed the road to be reopen in three days.

According to the Minister, this type of rehabilitation would have in the past been be done  in 3 months, instead of of the three days days it took at Jackson. The culvert at Jackson was done off site and then installed. It was the first time that such an operation was done on the island.

Boyce is of the view that this new method will vastly decrease the time it take to repair roads. The road works being done at Jackson is expected to be competed in three months, it is part of a three year road improvement project estimated to cost $46 million.
