The name of a new Secretary General of CARICOM is expected to be announced this week, the five candidates vying for the position were interview over the weekend at the Hilton Hotel, in Barbados by the Bureau of CARICOM Heads of Government, hosted by Prime Minister of Barbados Freundel Stuart and his five counterparts,Tilman Thomas of Grenada, Dr Denzil Douglas of St Kitts and Nevis and Desi Bouterse of Suriname.
The five canidades are Henry MacDonald of Suriname,Ellsworth John of St Vincent and the Grenadines, Bernadine Lewis of Trinidad and Tobago,Irwin LaRocque of Dominica and Carla Barnett of Belize.
They are seeking to fill the postition left vacant by the retirement of Dr Edwin Carrington, who served in the post for 18 years.
