The Barbados Water Authority (BWA) has announced urgent plans for major main replacement to address water supply problems in St. Andrew and St. Joseph.
This was revealed by acting senior engineer with the BWA Stephen Lindo at a recent townhall meeting held at the Faith Baptist Church in Walkers, St. Andrew
Several residents in St Andrew have been experiencing water outages almost daily for the past nine months, between six in the morning and eleven at night.
Lindo told the townhall meeting that' the outages were due to several ruptures which have occurred on a major main, which runs from College Springs in St. John to Newcastle and onto Belleplaine in St. Andrew.
He stated that main was close to 150 years old and there will be no more patch jobs done on it. Lindo also announced plans for the construction of a reservoir to address water supply problems in St. Andrew.
He saiad the proposal will be put to Cabinet shortly.
