The sense of entitlement that some Barbadians have towards the funding of their education must crease says Minister of Education Ronald Jones.
In a address to teachers attending a course at the Erdiston Training College, Jones said the education of one medical student could cost the Government $400,000 per year, $8000 a year for a nursery schoolchild, approximately $4000 for a child in a primary school and $5800 to $6000 for a child in a secondary school.
According to Jones, a number of Barbadians families could not afford that type of money, he contended that there were some people in Barbados who took these things for granted believing them to be an entitlement.
"We have to search for a new funding model for education in Barbados because we have a philosophy which should not be demage", Jones said.
