Georgetown: One of the most popular west indian newspaper in the U.S. is reporting a successful medical outreach project here in Guyana. The West Indian publication headline reads; " NYGM’s Work Impresses the Guyana Government". The report stated that the New Yrok Guyana Medical Outreach Projec t(NYGM) flew into Guyana on Sunday, July 31, 2011 and immediately proceeded to make adjustments to its workplan, consequent upon losing two days of planned activity due to the Caribbean Airline crash at the Dr Cheddi Jagan International Airport on July 30, 2011. The team was determined to complete the 8-day work in 6 days. And it did. The team consisting of Holly Persaud, Dr Vyas Persaud, Shana Persaud, Divya Persaud, Dr Acklema Mohammad, Sarah Persaud, Jean Ramdeo, and Dr Tara Singh, visited eight Child Care Centers (Orphanages) and performed medical examinations. At the request of the Ministry of Health and the Georgetown Public HospitalCorporation (GPHC) the NYGM team presented two seminars on “Pediatric Asthma” and “Suicide.” The reports added that through the Minister of Agriculture, Robert Persaud, the team’s local travel and accommodation expenses were met by the Guyana
government. This tha article stated speaks to the importance of the mission which has been founded on needs articulated not by NYGM but
rather by government agencies and NGOs. While in Guyana, the NYGM team also met with Minister of Health Leslie Ramsammy at the GPHC
Psychiatric Unit, while a NYGM delegation met with President Jagdeo, Health Minister Bheri Ramsarran, and Minister of Agriculture Robert Persaud at a State House reception.
