Newspaper executives charged

Bridgetown.

Three senior employees of the Nation Publishing Company are now on bail on a charge related to the publication of the photo, which accompanied a Saturday Sun story headlined, Sex Scene that sparked major debate in Barbados last month. 

In a landmark case,  Publisher  Vivian -Ann Llenora Gittens, 62, Editor-In-Chief Roy Morris, 52 and News Editor Sanka Price,53 appeared in the District A Magistrate's Court before Magistrate Wayne Clarke  charged with showing a indecent picture of two minors in the Saturday Sun.

They were  granted bail in the sum of $5000 with one surety, and ordered to surrender their travel documents.

Gittens, Morris and Price were not required to plead to the indictable charges. The senior executives of Barbados' leading newspaper were  arrested this afternoon and charged under Section 3, Subsection 1, of The Protection of Children Act, Chapter 146-a. 

The specific charge against each accused was that they published an indecent photograph of two children 14-years-of age in the Saturday Sun of Saturday, October 26th this year. 

Gittens, Morris and Price will have to reappear in the District 'A' Criminal Court Number 2 on March 11th next year. 

There was no objection to bail by police prosecutor Inspector Trevor Blackman,  he  however asked that their travel documents be surrendered to the court.
