The Government of Barbados never made a commitment to give an $8 million financial injection of cash to collapsed low cost carrier Redjet.
Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler, in a clear of the statement during his 2012 Financial Statement and Budgetary Proposals in House of Assembly last night said it was not true that he or any member of the Government had mislead or reneged on any promise to give financial assistance to that company.
According to Sinckler, after giving potentially million of dollars in concessions to the airline upfront, the Government still made efforts to get the company through an early and difficult financial period but in the end Redjet did not have enough of its own private captial to survive.
"Even if the $8 million were given immediately upon request, it is clear that it would have only postponed the inevitable", Sinckler said.
