Tempers flared at the monthly meeting of the St James Parish Council last night when Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) Councillor for the Cambridge Division Homer Davis served notice that he would be moving a motion of no-confidence against the Council Chairman and Mayor of Montego Bay Glendon Harris at the next sitting.
The announcement created quite a ruckus as the People's National Party (PNP) councillors took exception to the proposed motion and demanded an apology, arguing that Davis was trying to undermine the progress the municipal body was making under Harris' leadership.
However Davis, declaring the The Parish Council Act did not differentiate between minority and majority, said the bases on which he gave notice was the flag issue during the mayor's inauguration, the handling of the Cornwall Regional Hospital renaming, the granting of building permits to RIU hotel and "a menu of other things, where the position of the mayor has been found wanting".
