No deputy says Arthur

Bridgetown.

Opposition Leader Owen Arthur today made it categorical clear that he has not endoursed anyone for the post of deputy Prime Minister if the Barbados Labour Party(BLP) is elected to office in the upcoming general elections.

Speaking at a political rally at Lammings, St Joseph, last week Arthur publicly thanked his deputy Dale Marshall for his tremendous help during what he called the darkest days of the BLP.

"I want to thank you for the tremendous held you give me when we in the Barbados Labour Party when through one of our most difficult times at what could have been one of our darkest days', Arthur said to loud cheers from the party faithful at the meeting.

Arthur's statement was seen by some members of the public as a endoursement over Mia Mottley who served as deputy Prime Minister under Arthur's leadership from 2003 to 2008 in the last BLP government.

On October 18,2010 Mottley was ousted as Opposition Leader by her parliamentary colleagues including Marshall who was her deputy, in favour of Arthur,

The former Prime Minister called a  popular call-in radio programme this afternoon, and informed the the public that it would be silly of him to announced a deputy prime minister while seeking the post of prime minister.

"I have not been elected by the public to lead this country, therefore I cannot announced a deputy prime minister when I am not the holder of the office of prime minister" Arthur said.

He stated that in his opinion Mia Mottley was one of talented politicians in the region, a asset to the BLP and her skills will be used to the benifit of Barbados if the BLP is elect to office on February 21.IMG_2143
