No IDB graduation for Barbados

Bridgetown.

President of the Inter American Development (IDB) t Bank Luis Alberto Moreno says Barbados is not being graduated by the bank.

Earlier this year, the United tates proposed Barbados be graduated by the IADB which would have made the island ineligible for low interest loans for projects such as housing, education, energy, the environment and health.

Speaking to journalist in Bridgetown, Moreno said the IDB did not have a graduation policy and all Barbados loans that had gone to the IDB board had been approved.

The IDB president said the bank had approved about US$200 million in loans for Barbados over the four years and he disclosed another US$180 million policy based loan currently being worked on by the bank's technical team, was being discussed with Barbados, while the current relationship with the island was being reviewed following a recent visit by an IDB technical team.

In addition he announced that a country strategy for Barbados will be discussed with the IDB board next year.
