Members of the Royal Barbados Police Force (RBPF)will no longer be pay for extra duty with immediate effect.
This must disclosed to lawmen at meeting t District ‘A’, which was chaired by Acting Commissioner Tyrone Griffith, according to a source, Assistant Commissioner Oral Williams in charge of administrative matters read a memo from the Ministry of Finance which imposed the cut on police operational costs. Chops must be made on gasoline consumption, overtime, flexitime, stationery, water and electricity usage.
The source told Trakker News these cuts will lower moral among the rank and file of the RPPF because lawmen will have to work for long hours without compensation.
"People are livid, they have not been given a salary increase in the last five years and now this. We are often criticized for not responding to the public but how can we respond adequately if there are cutbacks on vehicles and gas", the source said.
The termination of overtime payments is part of the Freundel Stuart Administration’s budget cuts across all government and statutory departments where the Ministry of Finance is attempting to make a $436 million fiscal adjustment.
