Governor of the Central Bank of Barbados Dr Delisle Worrell says Barbados do not need a International Monetary Fund Programme because the island has adequate foreign reserves.
Speaking at a press conference this morning to reveiw Barbados' economic performance of the first quarter of 2013, Worrell said there is no need for any such programme as Barbados is economically independent and its debt is safe.
He noted that the recent downgrades by international credit rating agencies will not affect the island's credibility.
Worrell said there is a clear understanding of what must be done to secure future growth of the country and the Central Bank is working with the government to introduce a programme that will reduce Barbados' fiscal deficit.
He added that every Barbadian has a part to play in lifting Barbados as the island is in a position to move forward.
