Nothing to fear from cruise ship gambling

Bridgetown.

Barbadians have nothing to fear from cruise ships opening their casinos while being docked at the Bridgetown Port.

This assurnace came from Leader of Government Business in the Senate, Senator Maxine McClean on the Cruise Ship (Opening of Facilities) Bill 2012 in the Upper House yesterday.

While acknowledging that there has been some concerns raised about the legislation, she explained that the cruise ship does not provide access to any Barbadian except someone joining a ship as a passenger.

"The cruise ship terminal as configured right now and envisaged in the future, separates cruise ships from other vessels docked at the Port. This notion that there is some slide into casino gambling is nonsense. I have no fear that this is going to degenerate into the easing of casinos in Barbados", McClean said.
