Minister of Foreign Affairs, Senator Maxine McClean and Jamaica's High Commissioner to Trinidad Sharon Saunders, held a meeting yesterday evening; to discuss the allegation of Jamaican national Shanique Myrie that she endured a cavity search at the Grantley Adams International Airport on March 14.
McClean told the reporters that the the aim of the meeting was to get the truth and the facts, and cautioned against sensationalising what appeared to be an isolated incident.
She added that relations between Barbados and Jamaica remained strong and that in any family there would be "squabbles".
According to McClean, it was the media who was playing up the incident, she stressed that she enjoyed a good relationship with her counterpart in Jamaica Dr. Kenneth Baugh.
She described yesterday's meeting with Saunders as "amicable".
A four member delegation from Jamaica arrived in Barbados last night, and will join Saunders in discussions with senior Government officials today.
Senator McClean leaves Barbados today to attend a meeting in Belize.
Senator Harry Husbands, Parliamentary Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister with responsibility immmigration will lead Government officials at the meeting.
