Georgetown – The Chairman of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM), Dr. Steve Surujbally, has challenged Senior Managers of GECOM Secretariat, and the Registration Officers attached to the 23 nationwide Registration Offices, to demonstrate unswerving efficiency with respect to the conduct of General and Regional Elections later this year. This challenge was made during opening remarks which Dr. Surujbally gave at a one-day Meeting of the Senior Managers of the GECOM Secretariat and the Registration Officers.
Dr. Surujbally accentuated the necessity for all levels of GECOM staff to reflect on (i) the successful manner in which the 2006 elections were conducted, and (ii) the jeopardies which might have been encountered with a view to ensuring that the upcoming elections being more successful than its predecessor.
The primary objective of the Meeting was to focus attention on follow up activities associated with the recently concluded Cycle of Continuous Registration leading up to the conduct of the Claims and Objections exercise as a mandatory precursor task for the holding of the upcoming General and Regional Elections.
