Georgetown– The President's recent comments at the Annual Army Conference about the arrest of Bouterse, never mentioned that he was asked by the United States to do so. The President's exact words were: "I heard talk off arresting Suriname's President Desi Bouterse whenever he comes here, I said no I will not arrest Bouterse, let whoever want to arrest him do it, Bouterse in the legitimate leader of the Suriname's people and we have to work with him". Just yesterday the US Embassy in Georgetown issued a statement rejecting reports that they asked Jagdeo to arrest Bouterse in the wake of incriminating leaks about his involvement in drug trafficking and gun running with convicted Guyanese drug dealer Shaheed Roger Khan.
