Georgetown- In the absence of any special circumstances to decide the fate of a 65 year old American granny confined to a wheelchair, bailed was denied in the charge of cocaine possession. In her appearance at the Magistrate’s court she told the Magistrate that she lived all her life in the states, and is unaware of what is happening. Asked what she was doing in Guyana and about relatives here, the woman Maxine Dax gave an address in the States and explained that she has no clue what is taking place.
The 66 year old who is crippled from the waist down, was in a taxi heading to the airport when the car was intercepted by police on the East Bank, and a subsequent search revealed 9 kilograms of cocaine concealed in the woman’s wheelchair. The police acted on a tip off early in the day.
Cocaine granny as people now call her will remain incarcerated until a February court date.
