Georgetown – Boat operators met with President Bharrat Jagdeo in a closed door meeting at the Office of the President and were convinced that the Vreed-en-Hoop and Stabroek stellings will not be sold.
Vice President of the Demerara Speedboat Association Lancelot Moseley led the delegation.
The President cleared the air for operators who depend on the stellings to maintain their livelihood.
The Demerara River boat operators were also promised government’s support for a shed and a more comfortable platform for the passengers traversing the route.
At present there are over 50 boats operating the Stabroek to Vreed-en-Hoop route. Passengers are required to comply with a turn system that is strictly monitored by the Maritime Administration Department (MARAD) officials at both sides of the river.
