Georgetown –
Guyana will be among the few countries to present a National Budget with programming for a lower fiscal deficit during an election year, when its 2011 National Budget is presented in the National Assembly on January 17.
President Bharrat Jagdeo made this announcement while delivering the feature address at the opening of the new branch of the Republic Bank at Diamond on the East Bank Demerara.
The President said that the decision not to create an election budget this year although it is an election year, is based on the confidence that there is, and will continue to be macro economic stability in spite of difficult economic times.
He stated that Guyana has turned corners even through periods when a deviation from the norm was expected because the economy has been efficiently managed.
He said it is important not only to have political confidence but also for investors to have confidence in the country’s economic management.
