Georgetown- The local security sector, mainly the Guyana police force will benefit tremendously from significant injection of funds, particularly in the area of crime investigation and equipment. In delivering the 2011 budget , Finance Minister Ashni Singh said that the allocation of 1.1 billion is to ensure the effective operational capability of the security forces with the construction of a modern forensic laboratory, a fire fighting training school, new fire stations, remodeling of 6 police stations, rehabilitation of police and fire stations, prisons, barracks, outposts and bases countrywide. Over 140 million dollars will be spent on training of personnel to improve their response capability. Dr Singh added that a further 662.2 million has been allocated for the purchase of trucks, all terrain vehicles, pick ups, buses and other vehicles for the police and fire service.
