One shot dead in attempt robbery

 

Georgetown : Businesswoman Nandranie Sookwah, 45 years of Alexander Village was about to enter her motor vehicle at Orange Walk, Bourda, when she was attacked by a man armed with a firearm who grabbed at a bag that she had in her possession sometime around minutes to 6pm yesterday.

A struggle ensued over the bag which contained a sum of money during which Nandranie Sookwah was struck to her head with the firearm and she fell to the ground on top of the bag. By this time persons in the area began to converge on the scene and the armed man ran away along Regent Street and boarded a silver grey Toyota Raum motor car PPP 962.

Two off-duty policemen who were in the vicinity saw what transpired and gave chase behind the get-away motor car in another motor vehicle, while also informing Brickdam Operations Room about the attempted robbery. Police mobile patrols were alerted via the radio network and they quickly responded.

The get-away motor vehicle subsequently stopped on Church Street while travelling against the one-way and two men exited. One of them was arrested and has been identified as Troyan Moore, 28 years of Durban Street, Georgetown, while the other man made a bid to escape in the area.

Police ranks cordoned the area and later confronted the man during which he opened fire on the police who returned fire and he was fatally shot. He has been identified as Randy Morris, 32 years of Freeman Street, East La Penitence, Georgetown.  Morris has been known for eluding the police over the years in several armed robbery.

An unlicensed .32 Taurus pistol with five matching rounds was recovered by the police.
