The Opposition People's National Movement (PNM) says recent statements by Food Production Minister Vasant Bharat regarding the ongoing farmers' feud, suggest that there is conflict within the ruling party.
The Minister has sided with farmers whose crops were destroyed to continue government's housing projects, despite the Housing Minister insisting that the farmers' were breaking the law by squatting on the lands.
The PNM is calling for the resignation of Minister Bharat following his vocal support for protesting farmers. According to the Opposition, Section 29 of the Constitution states there should be a Cabinet collectively responsible to Parliament and the Opposition is aruguing that when a minister goes against the collective Cabinet, he or she is not abiding with tghe Constitution.
PNM Senator Fitzgerald Hinds is maintaining that Cabinet is no place for disunity.
