Georgetown : Over one thousand five hundred persons were tested for HIV, as the Ministry of Public Health, through the National AIDS Programme Secretariat (NAPS) conducted its ninth annual Valentine’s Day Couples’ testing activity under the theme “Test of Love”.
This number will increase as there are some outstanding reports from sites where the activity was carried out, including from Regions Two and Ten.
Certified counsellor testers conduct the testing with support from peer educators who work to mobilise persons to participate in this activity. This initiative sees couples getting tested together as a symbol of their love and commitment to each other. A total of 319 couples were tested.
This HIV testing activity was carried out in several regions by NAPS and Voluntary Counsellor Testers (VCT) from various Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) whose members work in the field of HIV/AIDS.
