Palisadoes Shoreline Protection and Rehabilitation Works

Jamaica: Chaina Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) one of the largest construction compines in the world is facing controversy over its US$400 million contract to construct the two lane highway, shoreline protection and drainage.

The contract also covers works by the Jamaica Development Infrastructure Programme (JDIP).

Harold Minott, human resource manager for CHEC made the following coments "We welcome local labour and have always include Jamaicans in our projects".

At a meeting called last week to discuss allegations that extortionist were making demans and threats at the Palisadoes construction site, Minott said "CHEC is investing millions of dollars towards the development of Jamaica and commited to carrying out its projects to the best of its abilities".
