Georgetown: Parika businessman Seeram Singh was shot dead outside his home at around 22.00 hrs on Saturday.
Singh, 52, of Lot 40, Parika Outfall, East Bank Essequibo, was speaking on his cell phone when persons nearby heard two gunshots and saw Singh collapse.
A man with a firearm reportedly then stood over the victim and took two gold chains and a ring from the wounded businessman. He then fled.
Singh, with a bullet wound to the chest and another to the lower back, was taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital where he succumbed.
A .32 live round and a bullet casing of similar caliber were found at the scene.
While jewellery was reportedly taken from the victim, police are working on other information which points to another motive other than robbery.
Detectives have detained an individual in connection with the killing.
Singh also sold fuel, and owned a cargo boat which operates in the Mazaruni area.
