Georgetown: Stakeholders are looking forward to the modernisation of the Parika Stelling as rehabilitative works are set to commence soon.
The Parika Stelling is one of the projects identified by the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) for upgrades to its facilities. This initiative is being welcomed by all stakeholders.
Amjad Shaw, a Leguan Community Development Officer, stated that he is anticipating the Parika Stelling’s modernisation.
“I am looking forward to a state-of-the-art stelling. They should explore the possibilities that would allow for a variety of activities to happen at once.” Shaw added, “it’s a modern age” and that a “technologically developed area” is needed.
A Bonasika Creek farmer, Bobby Singh is optimistic when the rehabilitation works are completed, a more spacious area will be provided to farmers like himself. According to Singh, farmers are at a disadvantage since there is insufficient space allocated for them to properly display and sell their produce on the stelling.
Bartica’s Deputy Mayor, Nageswani Kamal Lochanprashad commended the project. “I think it is very important to the other regions linking to this region because I see this area as the main port of transporting goods especially.”
