Parliament set for heated debate on no-confidence motion against Prime Minister

Port-of-Spain: All's set for a showdown in Parliament at 1.30 pm, as debate on the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar begins in the House of Representatives.

The motion which was brought by Opposition Leader Dr Keith Rowley takes precedence over all other business of the House and if passed would result in the removal of the Prime Minister and dissolution of Parliament for a general election.

However, it's not expected to reach there as the govenment has an overwhelming majority of 29 seats to the Opposition's 12, which has further been reduced to 11 with the absence of San Fernando East MP, Patrick Manning who is abroad recovering from a stroke.

Large screens have been set up at the waterfront in anticipation of hundreds of government supporters who are expected to come to the waterfront to show solidarity.
