Port of Spain; What is being described as a mechanical problem, forced authorities to cancel all sailings on board the T&T Express. Hundreds of passengers who traveled to the Island for the Easter weekend festivities are now stranded in Tobago. The T&T Spirit was used as a replacement, this vessel however, could not up to late yesterday clear the backlog of passengers who were terribly disappointed about the entire situation and chose to vent their frustration and anger.
Many lamented about how they became aware of the delayed situation, several of them never knew anything until they arrived at the Port before 5 am. This is when most of them learnt about the mechanical woes. They were then informed they would be accommodated around 10.30am which really did leave as schedule, the vessel was made to accommodated as many passengers as possible. During the period these persons had to wait, they found shelter from the sun and seating under trees located around the compound. There were no proper facilities by the staff such as chairs or benches with umbrellas.
Another problem arose when passengers from the 12 pm sailing of the stranded vessel were told they would be accommodated by the 5 pm sailing of the T&T Spirit, there was no room for vehicles on that trip, which resulted in passengers with vehicles being left behind. some of these passengers included small children and the elderly. Passengers also expressed their displeasure regarding the lack of information from the port staff. They all felt this was very unprofessional.
