Guyana:- Overwinning Primary School in New Amsterdam, in collaboration with a Peace Corps Volunteer mission have successfully completed its second annual summer camp hosting approximately 80 children from Grades One though Six. The camp ran from August 13, 2012 through August 17, 2012 and gave the children the opportunity to participate in week-long interactive and engaging activities in the areas of cross cultural music and dance, physical education, reading and crafts, educational games, healthy eating, and environmental care. The children sharpened their listening skills, sparked their imaginations, learned about the benefits of teamwork, and were rewarded for their excellent performance throughout the week. Red rover, picture bingo, charades, and Scrabble were just a few of the physical and mental games enjoyed by the camp’s participants. Other fun activities included dances to YMCA, the limbo, and Splish Splash as well as craft making related to storybooks by renowned authors such as Roald Dahl (James and the Giant Peach) and Dr. Seuss (Horton Hears A Who).
