Pedestrian killed in minibus crash

Georgetown: A pedestrian who was struck down by a minibus about 20:00hrs Wednesday night on the Prospect Public Road, East Bank Demerara, succumbed to his injuries about 23:15hrs ,at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.

Dead is Franklyn Dover, 43 of Lot ‘L’ First Street, Bartica. The driver of the minibus who was detained is assisting with the investigation.

Public Relations Officer Superintendent Jairam Ramlakhan said the 33 year-old driver of minibus BVV 2848 said that he was proceeding south along the western lane of the eastern carriageway of the aforementioned road when the pedestrian reportedly ran across the road from west to east and collided with the front right side of the bus.

As a result of the impact, Ramlakhan said that the pedestrian who fell onto the roadway and received injuries about his body was rushed to the East Demerara Regional Hospital in an unconscious state and subsequently transferred to the G.P.H.C where he died whilst receiving medical attention.

Superintendent Ramlakhan noted that a breathalyzer test was administered to the driver of the Route 42 Zone minibus who resides at Farm, E.B.D, but no alcohol was detected.

The body is currently at Lyken’s Funeral Home awaiting a post mortem examination as investigation progress.
