Port of Spain: Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar believes claims of financial impropriety at the CARICOM Implementation Agency for Crime and Security (IMPACS) are cause for concern.
During a tour of the Hope Center in Pointe a Pierre yesterday, Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar says the claims are very serious. “Should the allegations be true, we can’t say for sure that the allegations are not true. And should those allegation are true, it is a very serious matter because here it is you have an organisation that is charged with the responsibility for law and order and the fight against crime. And should be that they are in fact ensnared in criminal activity, it will be a really serious situation.”
Regional ministers of National Security are expected to meet this week. Mrs Persad-Bissessar said the matter will be thoroughly investigated. The issue stems from reports that a former IMPACS employee tried to defraud the organisation of a large sum of money.
