Georgetown : Legal Affairs Minister Anil Nandlall received 10 computers donated by Phagoo Singh of Bel Air village for the constituency Office in Region 4 – Annandale, to be used by students in the community.
The Minister in receiving the computers said “Our government recognised that education is perhaps the most scientific and surest method of empowering our people out of poverty.”
He emphasised that the computer in this age is perhaps the most important educational tool and therefore acquaintance with the device and the ability to use it is fundamental to the education of any child. “That is why we are placing so much emphasis in having our people have access to computers so that they can access all the potential which the computer enables one to access,” the Minister said.
He pointed out that the donation will certainly supplement the government’s effort of increasing access to computer use through the One Laptop Per Family Initiative.
While expressing gratitude to Mr. Singh, the Minister encouraged other persons who can afford it to emulate this gesture.
Singh expressed the hope that the children would make full use of the computer systems thereby enhancing their education. He noted that the systems were used in IT classes however, since CXC ceased doing practical exams, the systems were no longer needed hence the decision to donate them to persons who are in need.
