Phase one of synthetic track almost completed.

West Bank Demerara : Patrick Pitt, project manager of the construction of the synthetic track at Leonora, East Bank Demerara, disclosed that there are different phases of development of the project and that phase one is almost completed. He noted work was affected by heavy rainfall but they are working rigorously to complete it.

 He said that Germany-based BSW Regupol will be visiting in about two weeks to check on the progress of the work that has been done. The track it is expected will encourage athletes to have a facility to practice for competitions. The Class Two, Category 5 track is being constructed to meet international standards, in order to be certified by the International Athletics Federation.

Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport Dr. Frank Anthony said the project cost $124.9M and is a bit behind schedule but the company has recruited more workers so that phase one can be completed not long after the schedule time.
