Pilot appointed chairman of prison’s management board-Positive change cited for prison system.

Georgetown: Captain Gerald Gouveia, businessman and owner of Roraima Airways has been unanimously elected as chairman of the Guyana Prison Service Sentence Management Board. In a release from the Home Affairs Ministry stated that in view of the unprecedented nature of the Sentence Management Board, it was agreed that an orientation process will be embarked on, particularly for the benefit of the members who are not directly connected to the Guyana Prison Service. In this regard a series of meetings will be convened with key stakeholders, while visits will be paid to the five (5) prison locations. 

The Ministry said that members are enthusiastic about fulfilling the Board’s mandate, and look forward to building on the systems already in place in the Guyana Prison Service, and bringing about positive changes for the benefit of inmates, and, indeed, the Guyana Prison Service, and the society, at large.The Board is of the view that there are persons within the prisons who can be transformed, with the right intervention, and returned to society to lead productive lives.
