Plane crash lands in Guyana’s Rice Field

Georgetown: A single engine plane was forced to crash land on the Island of Wakenaam, which is situated at the mouth of the Essequibo River, earlier today leaving severe damages to the aircraft but fortunately no injuries. Two persons, including the pilot, were on board the two-seater plane at the time.

According to local Aviator, Gerry Gouveia, the Cessana 150 which departed Trinidad today was enroute to the Cheddi Jagan International Airport when it reportedly ran out of fuel causing it to crash into a rice field on the Essequibo Island.

Another experienced Aviator revealed that the American registered aircraft ran out of fuel due to heavy winds and miscalculation.  He revealed that the pilot had calculated for winds blowing north-northeast at 10 knots per hour when in actuality the winds were moving from southeast between 15 and 20 knots per hour. This, he said, resulted in additional resistance to the plane thus causing a slower pace which led to the depletion of fuel.

Reports suggest that the only real fear that the pilot of the plane was confronted with was when he exited the craft and was confronted with a man with a cutlass. There was however no altercation.

The site of the incident has since been secured and an investigation has been launched.
