Georgetown -Plans are moving apace for the chutney aspect of Mashramani celebrations which has attracted 18 artistes and which will be staged on Saturday at the Anna Regina community centre ground.
Convener of the competition Neaz Subhan along with Minister of Culture Youth and Sport Dr. Frank Anthony, visited the chutney camp in Campbellville where they interacted with the competitors present.
Minister Anthony stated that in previous years, it was a challenge to find persons willing to take part in the competition. However, this has changed as this year’s event has attracted quite a few competitors who have taken part in previous competitions.
He also added that the judging system employed for last year’s competition will be used for Saturday’s event. Coordinator of the Mash Secretariat Lennox Canterbury and Loaknauth Persaud, member of the chutney sub-committee visited the location of the chutney competition and were pleased with the works undertaken by Region Two as it relates to site preparation.
Loaknauth also held meetings with the top brass of the Guyana Police Force in Region Two to ensure there is adequate security, and has confirmed that all arrangements are in place.
Competitors expressed happiness with the work the ministry has put in over the years and they too, noted that the competition has been growing, giving them the impetus to participate.
The competition will be recorded and this will be packaged and broadcast across the Caribbean giving Guyanese artistes much-needed exposure.
