Port-of-Spain: Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar is hinting that while she may not be a practicing attorney she still continues to fight for the rights of people.
The prime minister made the comment as she accepted the highest award at Pravasi Bhartiya Divas Convention in Jaipur as part of her official state visit.
It is one of the country's highest awards, given to her by Indian President Pratibha Devisingh Patil.
The award is bestowed on people of Indian ancestry who have made outstanding contributions. As she received the award, the prime minister, while not referring specifically to the recent controversy regarding the awards of silk, says while she may no longer be a practicisng attorney, she still represents and fights for the rights of people.
The prime minister was asked to commission an all female agricultural school.
The prime minister, who is in india with a 160-man strong contingent, will next head to Calcutta, India as her official state visit continues.
