PM says some employers encroaching on employees rights

Bridgetwon.

Pime Minister Freundel Stuart, has warned employers  that the practice of denying workers their rights for any reason is totally unacceptable.

While lauding business entities for their commitment  to the agreement on collective labour and wage settlements. Stuart said that he had heard reports of some employers who are using this challenging economic period as an excuse for encroaching on and eroding the fundamental rights of their employees.

"This Government, as the largest employer in Barbados and as the protector of all citizens and residents will continue to respect the rights of workers. It expects therefore that all other employers in the Social Partnership will relate to their workers same way," Stuart said.

The Prime Minister made the comment during his keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the Barbados Worker's Union 70th Annual Delegates' Conference yesterday at Solidarity House.
