Georgetown : Prime Minister Samuel Hinds this morning issued an official suspension on the trading of ferrous metal scrap until further notice. The trading of non-ferrous metal scrap remains closed.
The Prime Minister’s move came after a recent resurgence of vandalism of metal, specifically punts belonging to the Guyana Sugar Corporation and other reported cases.
Last week a Kitty resident found remains of his car in a scrap metal yard. The man claimed that his car broke down a few weeks ago and was left parked on his parapet. When his car went missing, a search was done and eventually found in a scrap meatal dealer's yard.
