PM’s grandson diagnosed with dengue

San Fernando: Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar today visited her 5-year-old grandson who remains hospitalised at the San Fernando General Hospital with suspected dengue.

The condition of the 5 year-old Kristiano is said to be improving and hospital officials are denying that he was given any preferrential treatment.

Doctors report that there is no cause for serious concern. The prime minister's first and only grandchild was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital on Sunday suffering from dengue-like symptoms.

While tests have been carried out, there is no confirmation yet that the 5-year-old has indeed contracted dengue.

Chairman of the South-West Regional Health Authority (SWRHA) Dr Lackram Bodoe who has been monitoring the condition of little Kristiano says despite improvements, he will be kept at the hospital for another 24 hours.

Statistics show that there have been 75 cases of children under the age of 12 coming to the San Fernando General Hospital to be treated for dengue.
